the Photo walk

As someone who likes to make pictures on the streets I tend to work alone, there are many reasons for this and it’s not as complicated as it sounds.

But one being if you are in a group it tends to draw attention, especially if you all have cameras around your neck, people become well aware of you and what you’re doing, even though this is the case I still like to partake in a photo walk or two. It’s a great way to spend some time with like minded people, drink coffee make a few pictures and chat about photography, because if we’re not doing photography we’re chatting about photography.

So being free from working on this particular Saturday I was happy to meet up with a couple of friends of mine, one of whom runs a free photo walk around Norwich. (Links at the bottom of the page) plus any other photographers who were going to turn up on the day.

I had a great time and I also found out about some new places I’d never been before. Take the picture above, I never knew this underpass was here, yet I’ve driven over the road above many times. You learn something new every day. To be honest, I never expect to come away with any great pictures when I’m on a walk with others as I’m normally talking to much, so If I get any good pictures it’s a bonus. Photography and photography jobs tend to be a lone person thing, and it can be a very stressful place, so getting out with some fellow photographers can be a great stress relief. There are different types of photo walks around the country offered by many photographers and it all depends what you want to get out of it, this particular walk is a more relaxed affair, there are others on offer with a more teaching angle for a small fee .

This was a grab shot as we walked over the walkway, this guy had to wait for a few people to pass before he could get by and so I got a couple of frames.

I can’t recommend going on a casual photo walk enough, it’s what weekends are for. Even though the light was flat and very grey it didn’t stop us from taking a few pictures.

Hopefully I won’t be working when the next one comes up.

See you on the street.
