Photos in the snow
I wasn’t going to go out, why? because it was to bloody cold that’s why. But the chance to make some pictures in the snow was calling me. I was also trying out my Lowepro gloves, I’ve had them ages but never used them, I’m a bit of a fingerless glove man myself, but it was too dam cold so the Lowepro gloves got their first outing, they passed the “I can still use the buttons on my camera” test, but my fingers were still slightly cold.
Anyway, I wasn’t looking for any particular style of images, I just wanted to be out with the camera making pictures,
although most of the images were of a street photography style, I guess I like to have people in my images. I only made two pictures with no people in which are the next two below.
It didn’t take long before I was in street photography mode, as I walked into town I could here footsteps behind me so I slowed down to let the person pass, which gave me plenty of time to frame up the shot and use the tyre tracks in the snow as leading lines (Top image)
As last time, there really wasn’t many people around due to the lock down, but also the cold weather was keeping people at home. But as I came to the high street I saw a guy across the street sheltering in a doorway smoking a cigarette, I thought I’d go for a hip shot as I crossed the road, I didn’t want him to notice me as I was going to walk right in front of him, he didn’t pay me any attention and I managed to grab the shot below. In truth I was disappointed that I hadn’t got closer, oh well maybe next time.
The image below was just a reaction shot, as I was walking past the shop door opened on my left and this fella came out, I had my camera (Fujifilm x 100v) on and at waist level with the screen tilted up, so as he came through the door I just turned a little and fired a couple of frames, this was the best one. What I didn’t notice at the time was the small window with the picture of the car, I think it really balances out the image, and to top it all the guy looked straight at the camera.
Photographing people on the street has become fairly difficult these past 12 months, I try to capture expressions and sometimes smiles, but with everyone wearing a mask that’s become impossible, but one thing hasn’t changed, and that’s that everyone still wants to show their individuality, and at the moment people are doing that by wearing a mask that goes with their personality, some wear masks with flowers others with a leopard print, some show their allegiance to a football club, while others just want to put a smile on your face, That’s when I saw this guy.
Well it felt good to get out for some fresh air and some exercise, and as always I take my camera, to be honest it was more about taking my camera, the exercise comes as an off shoot of that, but I’m not complaining. I’ll leave you with a few more images I made on the day, hopefully I’ll see you on the street.
