A new project
It begins with an idea, or a theme. Something to base a new group of photographs around.
Welcome to the BTS page for The Timekeeper project.

IT BEGINS WITH AN IDEA

and turns into a photo project

THE TIMEKEEPER
So the working title was Project 3.
A few images have been posted to instagram with the project name The Timekeeper.
The project is on going and I will add some bts video clips as soon as I have time and when I make some new pictures.
We’ll call this a Project 3 diary which I’ll add to each time I go out to make some pictures. I have images in mind, they are places and ideas I think will make a good composition, but sometimes when I get to the place I thought would be suitable It doesn’t always work. But I make a few images just in case there is something I like or something about it inspires me with another idea.
This photo project is not street photography related in any way, but just an idea that gives me a theme to make photographs around. For a few of the shots I want I have to travel around the uk to different events, these only happen at certain times in the year and the last one is in September.
So it’s going to be nearly a year in the making, plus the time to put it all together, so it’s not the case of too many images making it take a long time, it’s just a timescale I have no control over.
The images above and all future images on this page all relate to Project 3 in one way or another. Each time I make some progress I’ll try and add an image or two.
So check by every now and then
The first shots.
I had been thinking of a possible shot I wanted but it’s always finding a location that fits what you have in your head. I was looking for a road with street lights but no buildings at the side, when you want something specific it’s always harder to find. But I did find something similar to what I had in mind, I wanted a straight road but this one had a slight curve in it, I also wanted an evening with a little mist just to make the lights glow a bit, so the first night with some mist I took a chance on the location. I got a couple of pictures I’m happy with, but if I see a better location I will probably make a few more pictures and see how they compare.
The picture at the top of this page is the location, but not the shot for this project.
sometimes its a waiting game
Today I was looking for background images, It had been good weather the past week and I’d managed to book a couple of days off work, but what happened? it rained, typical. So it was coffee in the car waiting for the rain to stop.
It didn’t.

PHOTOS BY THE SEA
The beach was our location on Saturday and the city on Sunday. I think I managed to get the images I wanted, but I do feel I missed an opportunity to get something a little extra that I hadn’t planed on, I hate it when that happens. I only really thought about it afterwards which just made me more annoyed with myself. Maybe I’ll talk about that in the behind the scenes (BTS) video I’m making, I’m not sure how that’ll turn out but I’m doing my best to remember to film the odd bit of footage.
Took the image above while we were at the beach, sorry I didn’t make any other BTS images.
Next I needed one or two elevator shots, so on Sunday headed to the city, who knew how much this would be a pain in the butt to find the right elevator. You have something in your head and you think ok, I know where there’s a lift, but when you get there it’s just not right, too big, too small, or mirrors everywhere. In the end the shopping mall was the place. It was a case of riding up and down until nobody was in there so I could get what I needed, plus a shot or two from the outside, but you have to be quick because security don’t like that shit and they’ll be kicking you out pretty sharp.
I managed to get a couple of images incorporating the building below, not sure if they will feature in the project but it’s good to have more images then I need.

It’s a two week break before I can get out and get the next shots I need, I’m hopeful it won’t be raining, if it is I better think of a plan B.
See you then.

LONDON
I took a trip down to London with a few images in mind which involved tall buildings. I couldn’t believe that we actually had some good weather for April which meant I’d get some nice shadows and highlights, I had an idea of the pictures I wanted but wasn’t sure of the best locations to find them, so it involved a bit of walking around trying to find something suitable. The things I thought would work didn’t and other things I thought I’d just give a go turned out a lot better. But I’m still looking far a tall building shot as I didn’t manage to get one I really liked.

I thought the sky garden building would be a great place to start and I did manage one picture that I may use in this project.
I have a few ideas of some other locations that I’m going to try, and as always other ideas just pop into my head and I’ll give them a go as well if I think they may work.
You have to keep going until you find what you’re looking for.
It can be a challenge to find great backdrops for our pictures, especially when you want them to add some kind of meaning to the image or project you’re working on. Luckily I knew of a place that would fit with the theme I’m working on, which was a couple of derelict houses not too far from where I live. I made quite a few pictures and came away with three images I’m really happy with. You really do need to shoot quite a bit and keep experimenting to find the pictures you need, I have a vision in my mind but it doesn’t always translate to a good picture, So I go down all paths to find the one that leads to what I want.
